You can find Tokuboshi Soy Sauce Brewery, whose soy sauce is well known in Asuka, along the road approaching Okadera Temple. We have run it as a family business for three generations. We use special wooden buckets to make organic Tokuboshi Soy Sauce, which is brewed for a minimum of one to two years. It is this long period of brewing that produces the mellow taste of Tokuboshi Soy Sauce. Tokuboshi Soy Sauce is well known and very popular among locals. Soy Sauce is one of the basic ingredients for Japanese cooking. Please be sure to visit us when you are in Asuka. Asuka Omoidedo（飛鳥おもいで堂） The owner of this shop loves Asuka and has hand-made a wide variety of original souvenirs. Don't miss their realistic figures of stone carvings made with the use of 3D printers and computers. Asuka Strawberry Picking Park（あすかいちご狩りパーク） Asuka Rubi Strawberry Picking Park is a plastic greenhouse, thus you can enjoy in winter or on rainy days. We introduce an elevated cultivation system for strawberries so that you do not need to sit down but rather stand up and can easily harvest. Glassblowing Workshop（吹きガラス制作体験） Glass Studio Sanpo（硝子工房「さんぽ」） This studio stands in front of Asuka Kiyomigahara-no-miya, a shrine built in the latter half of the 7th century for Emperor Tenmu and Emperor Jito. Ancient glass making artifacts were found at the Asuka-Ike-Kobo Ruins in Asuka-mura, which is believed to be the Japan's first glass making workshop. This glass studio, located next to Coffee Sanpo, was opened in April 2014. They make and sell simple glassware, such as dishes and vases for daily use. Their glasses are also used at Coffee Shop Sanpo. At the glassblowing workshop you can make your own original glass, which will be one-of-a-kind glassware, just like the works of the ancient artisans in the Asuka period. Kofu Saiku Himorogi（古布細工 ひもろぎ） Standing quietly and secluded near Asuka-ni-imasu Shrine, this Yamato-style house was built over 140 years ago. The shop features handicrafts made personally by its owner from old kimono fabrics, as well as other small items, accessories, book covers, and the like. Each month, it also exhibits the works of other artisans. Please call them for the details. Furthermore, the additive-free ohagi (2 for 300 yen), made of locally grown mochi rice and azuki red beans, makes for a great souvenir!
